Analysis of the Top 10 charts
  • I am by no means an expert, but that's what blogs are for!
  • Some of the cameras in the top 10 are as expected, such as the Canon SD-series (aka Ixus, Ixy).
  • The Japanese market has a love affair with the bijou cameras, so it's not surprise to see cameras such as the Fuji S5fd, Olympus Stylus (mju or m) 770sw... A mild surprise in this category is the Kodak V705, but it is a "bijou" camera, and it has the bonus gadgety point of having a unique dual-lens/dual-CCD design
  • While the Panasonic F-/FX-series has been popular in Japan for a while now, the TZ3 continues to pave the way for blockbuster status in the global market as it remains at #1 for 4 weeks now. The TZ3 has also been in the Amazon (USA) Top 15 for a while now with the black version, while the silver and blue have been in the Top 100.
  • A bigger surprise is the success of the Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom despite the lukewarm reviews and compromises made.
  • The Nikon P5000 is doing well despite its flaws (then again, which camera does not have any flaws?). The P5000 is definately a step in the right direction for Nikon and hopefully future versions of the P5000 offer substantial improvements, not just more megapixels!
  • The low noise advantage is translating into sales for the Fuji F31fd. Well done Fuji! Now make sure you put xD/SD in every camera you make, and grab Olympus by the ear and make them do the same thing!
  • Ricoh is a company not getting as much attention as it deserves, but certainly the R6 has made its way to at least one Top 10 in Japan!
