Breaking News: Canon to make CMOS sensors for compact cameras as well!

dpreview informs us that Canon is planning to make to make CMOS sensors for compact cameras as well as dSLRs in their new CMOS production factory near Tokyo! Canon has been mostly using Sony CCD sensors for their non-DSLR digital cameras the last few years. Phil Askey calls this "significant news". Phil also predicts slightly larger CMOS sensors with improvements in image quality. Check the dpreview link above for all of Phil's comments as well as links to the Reuters news story and Canon's CMOS website... This could change things dramatically in the digital camera world. It may be the kick manufacturers need to wake up and smell the quality of their pixels instead of their quantity!
