Stealth marketing or too many fans? The Canon EOS 40D is everywhere, yet nowhere

Is this stealth marketing or too Canon many fans anxiously searching and digging, leaving no stone unturned in order to find as much as they can about the Canon EOS 40D before it gets announced? Here is a sampling of Canon 40D rumoralia [I like making up new words!] on the "internets":

  • Bob Atkins. "Leaked" images of the camera (not from the camera) and specs also posted.
  • Engadget is posting a chain store leak that originated from the forums. The price talked about is $1600 (with lens, presumably the 28-135 EF IS USM) and September 2 availability. (Canon is notorious for announcing and quickly releasing a product thereafter). And if it's at Engadget, it will almost certainly be at Gizmodo as well.
  • Someone even got a domain name for this camera with more spec-o-leaks. Despite the url name, it is not an official Canon website!
  • Lots more on this at the Canon 30D/20D/D-Rebel DSLR Talk forum.
  • Also more at Northern Light
  • This is just a sampling, there's more places out there.
