Photography Soup (Xmas Blogging Marathon edition)

We conclude our Xmas Blogging Marathon with a special edition of the Photography Soup! In this installment we recap everything we posted during the marathon, take a spin around the photo-blogo-sphere, and spotlight one of the local camera shops.

XMas Blogging Marathon: Executive Summary
Since most websites go quiet during the holiday, we decided to fill the information overload void with a barrage of blog updates. And what a barrage it was! Here is what we posted during this marathon:

  • We created a new resource, the eBay Prosumer Finder: a long list of pre-filled eBay queries with some of the most popular prosumer models of the last few years. The likes of Minolta A2, Sony F828, Canon G5, Olympus C8080, Nikon 8400, Fuji S602, and the like.
  • After a few weeks absence the Overheard in the dpreview forums feature made its return. If you haven't visited the dpreview forums before, this post highlights a variety of topics discussed at the moment, loosely grouped together (eg pictures, equipment/tech talk, rumors, controversy, etc)
  • We also produced a new Prosumer/RAWsumer specific post, predicting/speculating/wishing for new prosumers (RAWsumers) in 2008. This is posted at the RAWsumer blog.
  • We highlighted all of our recent recent rumor-speculation-prediction posts
  • We also updated the Fuji 6mp "magic" SuperCCD post with new information and commentary
  • We dugg around the web to find 10 Photography stories at Mixx, and Nine DSLR stories from Digg
  • We also alerted our readers of a Canon 40D price drop
  • You can read every single one of our XMas Blogging Marathon posts in one page but be warned, this is a very long page!

The Support Your Local Camera Shop Initiative
We continue spotlighting local camera shops from our List. If you have a shop, you can be added to the list if you wish. Just let me know. Today's spotlight shines on Wolfe's Cameras, Camcorders and Computers in Topeka, Kansas. They have been in business for over 80 years. Please note that despite the name similarity, they not affiliated with Ritz/Wolf cameras!

    Inside the Imaging Insider
  • Imaging Insider is a great source for photography and imaging information. Here are some of the latest stories posted there!
  • Photographer Tom Carter breaks records in China
  • This is a great resource: A big table listing shutter lags for many popular digital cameras. Pull out your model calculators (eg check the dpreview press releases) to sort out the Canon IXUS model names. They differ depending on whether they are an Ixus, Ixy or Elph. Oh Canon, simplify please!
  • ScanMyPhotos wants all pictures to be digitized in 2008?
  • Fidelity Electronics debuts a 15" digital picture frame. Once the common size for computer LCD monitors, and now the typical size for laptops, the 15" LCDs seem to be the next frontier for mass market digital picture frames.
  • You can also accessorize your gear!

    Around the Photo-blogo-sphere
  • A new wave of posts at David Ziser's Digital Pro Talk. He also gives us a heads-up on five stories he is working on at the moment. You will also find some nicely crafted pictures there, along with topics from the pro-photography sphere.
  • Episode #113 of Photoshop User TV has been posted. Don't worry, you don't have to watch the previous 112 episodes in order to get this one. This is not ABC's Lost :)
  • Hit me with your best shot at the Flickr Blog. By "me" I don't mean "me me", but the song. Okay, I ruined it, didn't?
  • Photography Bay has a round-up of reviews of the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
  • Speaking of lenses, if you missed it before, be sure to check a first impressions look of the Nikon 24-70 F2.8 by Ryan Brenizer.
  • Continuing with the lens theme, Amin's Photo blog compares and contrasts corner sharpness between 4/3rds and 35mm. Cameras used for the experiment were the Canon 5D and the lovely Olympus E410.
  • Amin also compares and contrasts per pixel sharpness of the Panasonic L10 and the Olympus E510.
  • PhotoCompete has found a new competition for those who like to enter photographic competitions.
  • Catch up with the week that was at the Digital Photography School

This last sentence concludes our Christmas Day Blogging Marathon!
This blogging marathon was our XMas gift to our readers. We decided to go with this gift. The other option was to give each one of our readers a brand new Nikon D3 with a Nikon 24-70 F2.8 lens, but eventually we decided that our readers would likely prefer a blogging marathon instead of a brand new Nikon D3 + 24-70 F2.8 lens :-)
