Week in review (December 1 thru 8, 2007)

Welcome to another edition of the weekly round-up at 1001 Noisy Cameras. This edition will be using the same format as last week's post, with topics grouped by category, instead of time.

New Product Announcements
Samsung quietly introduced two new P&S digital cameras for 2008, the S760 and S860. The timing itself is a bit strange since it distracts from their existing line-up. However, these are mass-market entry-level cameras, so they are unlikely to suffer from this announcement. Perhaps Samsung wanted to be the first one to announce a 2008 model?

Camera and Photo World roundups
We had four installments of our Photography Soup web round-up, on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Each installment is loaded with stories of interest and features one of our Noisy Readers. If you want to be added to the list, just let me know! It's that simple!

We also updated the Support your Local Camera Shop Initiative with 15 local camera and photo shops listed. If you have a local camera shop and wanted to be added to the list, just let me know! It's that simple!

Reviews and Shoppers
dpreview posted their highly anticipated review of the Fuji F50fd, and their conclusions may surprise some! Also of interest, Imaging Resource posted their Panasonic FZ18 review.

For the shoppers out there, we had our first virtual shopping spree at B&H Photo. This turned into a mini buyer's guide, spotlighting some of the cameras that might be of interest to some of the readers out there. More installments featuring other retailers coming up next week.

We also had two episodes of the Charts, featuring the most popular cameras at Flickr and the best sellers at Amazon. The latter turned into a mini buyer's guide as well.

Blogging Matters
In an attempt to clean up some of the load on the two side-bars, and to provide an anchor for the more "wacky" content, we created Page Two: Chaotic Noise. As the title suggests, it's an anything goes type of a page. Think of it as a blog within a blog.

We also posted some of the things on our To-Do List. Unlike Doctor Who, we cannot jump through time, so we don't have as much flexibility :)

We also offered our readers another way to stay in touch with this blog. We already offer RSS feed subscription and email subscription, but now there's another option: You can receive Google Alerts, by setting up the keywords of your choice. So you can be notified every time we mention "Nikon" or "this camera sucks" (we never say that!), or "new review", or any other phrase you wish. Please keep in mind that this feature is offered and maintained by Google. We have no access or control to it, so please direct any support issues to Google (and the Google Group of the product).

As regular readers have noticed, the template is always subject to change. We will be experimenting shortly with the Bargain Hunter's Corner at a new location. Speaking of new location, the Labels (aka Tags) have moved from the right column to the left column. The left column is wider, so it gives them more "breathing room". Because the list of tags is so long, check for them towards the bottom of the blog.
