New JVC Victor Everio GZ-MZ740 uses 7mp 1/2.5" sensor (and it's a camcorder)

New news from digitalcamera.jp. JVC Victor of Japan has announced the Everio GZ-MZ740. It is a camcorder, but we are not sure how to classify this thing: it uses a 7mp 1/2.5" sensor for picture taking! This is the size of sensor that the majority of shiny silver cameras use!

More details on this at the JVC Victor Japan website, computer translated via Altavista.

There's actually two more models, the GZ-MZ730 and GZ-MZ530. As the model number indicates, the MZ-7xx have a 7mp sensor and the MZ-5xx have 5mp sensors. The 40 stands for 40gb and the 30 for 30gb (hard disk drives).

The initial monthly production output appears to be 8,000 units total, they use 1.3" 40gb hard disk drive (30gb for the MZ-x30 models), have a 44-440mm 10x Konica Minolta lens (what?), 720x480 video and such. We do not know if the lens is stabilized.

No, we are not turning into a camcorder blog, but it has a 7mp 1/2.5" CCD sensor, and there's nothing new on the PMA 2008 front :)
