New navigation boxes - what do you think?

We just added a line of pull-down menus at the top of each page in an attempt to make this blog easier to navigate and to explore. Each category contains a number of individual or groups of posts and they open in a new browser tab for your convenience.

More items will be added, and the categories will be fine-tuned in the next few days.

So what do you think of this instead of the previous single line that ran across the top? Don't be shy, we are not offended by feedback :)

I like the concept, a valuable addition to the site. The density of the information presented makes the site difficult to consume, but this addition allows the user to sort the topics and gain entry to the knowledge.
I read the site several times daily browsing for news but I do not remember what pre dated the navigation boxes.
You give us a lot to digest, thank you for the new menu.

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Before the navigation bar, there was just one line of internal links along with the subscribe buttons, basically the equivalent of one of the navigation boxes in terms of functionality.

I am trying to de-clutter the site and find ways to make it more readable, but every time I remove six widgets, I add three more!
