Green with envy: The Sigma 200-500 is available for pre-ordering for $25,000

And we are not talking about monopoly dollars, but $25,000 of your hard earned (or found) dollars! That's right folks, the big daddy of zooms, the Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 APO EX DG Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens for Sigma is listed at Amazon for pre-ordering for the "affordable" price of $25,000. Available for Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts. Amazon estimates that it will ship "when available". Shipping weight is 50 pounds!

More coverage on the new Sigma lenses of 2008 in our PMA Sigma lenses post. And a security warning when using this lens at the Wired Gadget Blog :-) The Imaging Insider has a podcast that mentions this green giant, and a link to the Sigma page.

LOL! Well if it got the the Nikon D3 30% limited availability premium, the Green Monster would go over $30,000. But it's no Nikon D3 :)

LOL. At the rate we are heading, that may be the next differentiator! DSLRs with matching lenses in fashionable colors, just like the mass-market colorful ultracompacts!

Bright orange Coolpix to go with a bright orange Nikon D40 and matching a bright orange kit lens :)
