New Ricoh Caplio R50 is announced!

We have a second new Ricoh digital camera announcement. No, it is not a follow-up to the GX100, so don't get too excited. But instead it is the Ricoh R50 which also uses a 10mp sensor, presumably the 10mp 1/2.33" sensor that everyone has fallen in love with in 2008.

Unlike the newly announced R8, the R50 is not currently available for pre-ordering at Adorama.

The R50 has a 5x optical zoom lens, with a pedestrian 36-180mm 35mm equivalent focal range, 15 scene modes, voice memo and such. Not a lot of details are currently available on this model.

More details from Ricoh Global itself, in their global site in english. This includes specifications, which confirm it is a 1/2.3" sensor. and it uses a DB-80 LiIon battery. Weight is 116 grams without battery or memory card. I always use my digital cameras without a memory card and a battery. They are more portable that way ;-) Ricoh also has a PDF brochure on the camera, and one full size sample picture.

Monthly production output
The official Ricoh Japan announcement has come out, and that reveals that the initial monthly production output for the R50 is 30,000 camera units per month.
