The new Stanford Experiment: 3D imager

This story has picked up a lot of momentum in the last couple of days, so we will do a round-up of the coverage of it. This is an R&D story, so don't expect this to show up in the cameras you can purchase in stores now, but it promises quite a lot of interesting things for the future. The R&D prototype is a three megapixel sensor by Keith Fife and his team of ...trees :)

So what have the Stanford R&D folks came up with? A sensor that has 3D magic! More details of this at CNet's Underexposed blog, Image Sensors World, Imaging Resource, Wired's Gadget Blog, and Gizmodo.

It is also discussed in the dpreview news forum.
