Sigma DP1 pre-orders available for $800 at Amazon (updated)

We were checking out the latest posts at The Online Photographer where we noticed that they noticed that the Sigma DP1 is available for pre-ordering at Amazon for the price of $800. There was some confusion at (re)announcement on the price, some places mentioned $800 and some $1000. $800 is better than $1000. Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray! Update: It looks like the $1000 mentioned earlier at CNet is the list price, versus the $800 which is the out of the gate price (for lack of a better term).

Sigma has also made available a few accessories to go with the new DP-1. The accessories include the Sigma External View Finder AV1900, for $150, which shows perhaps that the Ricoh approach is finding new friends :) Next up is the Sigma HA1001 Hood for $20. Of course an extra battery is a must, and they offer the Sigma BP-31 Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery for a reasonable $20. Model # is D00018 for those who care. And for more flexibility in your power options, the Sigma SAC-3 AC Adapter is offered at $20.

Oops, we forgot about the external flash! The Sigma EF-140 External Flash for Sigma DP1 is offered at $80 and is made for the Sigma DP1.

So let's do some math now for those who want to buy everything Sigma DP1: The camera itself, the external viewfinder, the external flash, the extra battery, the hood, and the adapter cost all together... *calculating* *calculating* *calculating* $1090, $800 for the camera, $290 for the five optional accessories.

Sigma has taken an interesting approach, affordable accessories, expensive camera and external viewfinder. We are excited to see this become "more real". Just a few weeks ago we were joking that Big Foot was seen taking portrait pictures of the Loch Ness monster using the DP-1. We can now reveal that that was not a joke. The Bigfoot really did that ;-) You should see Nessie at sunrise and sunset with Foveonesque colors. Amazing! :-)
