Noisy Shopper: Pentax K100D Super, Circuit City and other stories

We have no theme in today's installment of the Noisy Shopper. It's a gumbo!

Fans of the Nikon D80, or power users who want to "taste" the Nikon mount, while not abandoning their current cameras, can spend $1250 at Adorama and get a nice power-starter kit: The Nikon D80, the 18-135 DX lens, and the 55-200 f/4-5.6G DX VR lens. The D80 is currently the best bang for the buck DSLR among Nikons as it offers more advanced features than the D40/D40x/D60, and costs less than the D200 and D300. In fact for about the same price as this 2-lens bundle you can get the D200 body only. Of course if you must have some of the D200 features than you can't get with the D80, that's a different story.

Abe's of Maine is offering the Pentax K100D Super with the 18-55 DA lens, for the one price of $500. The K100D Super is being replaced by the new 10mp Pentax K200D, but those happy with 6 APS-C megapixels, and low prices, may still be interested in the K100D Super.

And speaking of DSLRs, be sure to check dozens and dozens of reviews in the DSLR Review Matrix.

If you are a fan of Circuit City or have one of their gift cards to burn, the Nikon D40 with the 18-55 DX lens is currently at $500, which is pretty much what you'd pay at Amazon and other reputable online retailers.

And a couple of other Circuit City reasonable prices, the Samsung S73 is down to $80 (7mp, 3x optical, AA, SD, 2.5" LCD), while the red Olympus FE-340 is released at $200 and comes with a free bonus camera case. The freebie is a LowePro Ridge 10, black.

Meanwhile, the Canon S5 IS gets a nice discount at Office Depot, for $320, as they are having a special 20% off select digital cameras this week. And for those planning a mini shopping-spree, they have a special financing promo, but be sure to read it through and understand the terms first. No interest* for 12 months on purchases of $499 or more, after discounts, made on the Office Depot® Personal Credit Account In-Store, by phone or online. Minimum monthly payments required. Learn more. Expires 3.29.08
