Sigma DP2 and DP3 coming later on says Amateur Photographer Informer magazine

The rumors are simmering for Photokina 2008, except these are not just rumors. They come from the mouth of the Sigma executive founder Michihiro Yamaki.

Details in this dpreview Sigma Talk forum discussion. You can check the Amateur Photographer UK site - I do not know if they plan to post content from The Informer online.

According to the AP Informer, Sigma plans a DP2 and DP3 non-DSLR camera, and one of them might have a zoom lens, and the other a focal length that is complimentary to the DP1. Or something like that. If you are in the UK, run to your local news stand or bookstore and grab the AP issue with the Informer magazine! :)

We already mentioned the new Sigma SD15 DSLR coming later this year. And while we are at it, be sure to check our early Photokina 2008 coverage.

If you are in the US, you can subscribe to Amateur Photographer UK via Amazon for $229 per year. Not sure how long it takes for the latest issue to arrive. The AP UK is a weekly magazine. That's right, weekly, not monthly!

Update!
The story is discussed in the non-denominational dpreview News forum, and also at Photography Blog.

A DP1 with a zoom??

I'm there Dude.... LOL

Now that I am interested in!

Hopefully someone, somewhere, will post the article online so us non-subscribers can read it.

$229 a year for a magazine- I don't think so. I have to put that money in my piggy bank for the DP3...LOL ;-))

Oh man, now I really can't wait for Photokina!!!!!

If they are delivered the same way the DP1 was, we should expect them in 2010 :-) Hopefully they ironed out all the issues with the DP1, and they will launch them as planned :)

But I agree, this looks interesting and exciting! These could force the SLR manufacturers to re-evaluate their line-ups and (re)join the party!

Well, considering it's a weekly magazine crossing over the pond, it is "only" $4.40 per issue or so :-)

Ah, ok- I thought the magazine was monthly. That isn't bad then.

Good point about the issues of getting it to market. The DP2 & DP3- could that be 2012 & 2013? LOL

This is very exciting news though. Because even if it was only a 2x zoom I would still be interested.

28mm is just not a flattering focal length for portraits. Your subjects wind up with a schnoz looking like F.Murray Abraham's... ;-)

I can also live with a maximum of ISO 800, if they add image stabilization.

How many days until Photokina...??? LOL ;-)

Photokina is about 200 days away :( The trade show starts September 23, 2008.

It is quite interesting that they will be doing different cameras, given their low volume, while the high volume manufacturers are completely shying away from it these days.

It will be interesting to see what type of a zoom they go for. A bright 2x or 3x, or a more "versatile" 24-120mm, comparable to the new Nikon 16-85 DX. After all Sigma has a smaller sensor, so they could make it slightly smaller even. Other things equal.

The Photokina story so far in the Photokina 2008 rumor round-up.

Sigma DP3 is coming soon with an amazing f 1.0...Believe or not i am from Japan and got this info from a worker of Sigma...

That will certainly be very interesting if they indeed make an f1.0 camera with the current 1.7X sensor :)

I just stumbled upon this old post. Well, SD15 is still not here and no signs of a DP3 either. I really hope they can scale the output of their sensor to take it to at least 6 MP (X3).
