Noisy Shopper: Retailers smell tax refunds

It looks like retailers are smelling the tax refunds, because we saw an uptick in good offers and tempting prices in the last few hours! Is your refund under your pillow?

Can you resist the temptations?
Nikon D300 body only, $1675 at OneCall, free shippingThe biggest buzz for the buck DSLR out there. Sure the D3 promises miracles and wonders but costs three times as much as the D300. Plus it requires more expensive lenses to take full advantage of the 35mm full frame sensor.
Sigma 24-60mm f2.8 with Hoya G 77mm UV filter, for $200 by Cameta on AmazonThis is the Nikon mount edition and since it is an EX DG not-DC lens, you can use it on both your DSLRs and your film SLRs. Includes trinkets and cleaning accessories as well
Sigma 17-35 f2.8-4 lens, $200 Cameta on AmazonThis is the Sony-Minolta edition and since it is an EX DG not-DC HSM lens, you can use on both your film and digital SLRs. It also comes with a Hoya 77mm UV protector glass filter and a few more cleaning trinkets and accessories
Panasonic FX55 silver, $254 at AmazonIf you are appalled by the new 10mp 1/2.33" sensors that are great for the marketing departments (double-digit megapixels grab the attention of the average consumer), then perhaps you can go for a camera with an 8mp 1/2.5" sensor, which at its time was of course considered an abomination compared to a 7mp 1/2.5" sensor, and so the story goes.
Canon Digital Rebel XTi silver, aka 400D, body only, $520 at AmazonThe introduction of the new XSi (450D), makes the XTi (400D) the best bang for the buck Digital Rebel. Are you a Rebel?
Canon S5 IS, $295 at AmazonYes, Canon's "latest" superzoom drops below $300. We are expecting that by Photokina 2008 we will see a new S-series superzoom and a follow-up to the SX100-IS, but until then the S5 IS is the top Canon superzoom.
Nikon Coolpix S4, $180 by Cameta on AmazonBlast from the past! This is a 6mp 1/2.5", 10X superzoom, with a twist and swivel body. Alas no image stabilization.
