Week in review (April 27 to May 3, 2008)

It must be Sunday again because it's time for the Weekly Rewind! Here we recap the posts posted here at 1001 Noisy. Why read this blog every day, when you can read it once a week? :)

Special Features this week
Our Big Monday feature this week was huge, much larger than anticipated. We tried to map and organize the websites that review digital cameras. Of course we all know about dpreview, and Imaging Resource, and Thom Hogan and Ken Rockwell, but there are actually hundreds of places with digital camera reviews! It's an all-you-can-eat buffet for the camera geeks :)

We also created an alternative Mother's Day Gift Guide, treating Moms like real persons. No santa-clausification effect allowed :)

DSLR Prices
What started as an experimental feature, ended up being a recurring theme for the whole week. The DSLR Price Charts are just that, snapshots of the prices of DSLRs at some of the major retailers. We started this with Nikon, then continued with Canon, and then with the Sony-Minolta Alpha. The journey continued with K-mount DSLRs, and finished with Four Thirds. All apologies to Sigma fans, but it didn't seem particular efficient to create a whole post for one DSLR that is not generally available and at the end of its lifecycle. After all the Sigma people talked earlier this year about an upcoming SD15.

New News and Cameras (or lack thereof)
No new cameras this week, at least none of the cameras we are tracking. There were a couple of new models from SeaLife and BenQ, but with so many new models coming up left and right, we had to restrict our coverage to the major manufacturers. All apologies BenQ, Sealife, Hello Kitty, Praktika, Rollei-clone-flex, etc. Of course if they do make a buzzworthy camera, we will certainly feature it :)

Market News
Last Monday the Japanese markets were busy talking about Panasonic and Sanyo merger rumors. But both sides denied it with strong denials. Also on Monday, B&H and Adorama re-opened after their Passover holiday break.

The Amazon Top Selling Digital Camera Charts snapshot-to-snapshot soap opera had two new episodes this week, one on Monday with a Panasonic TZ5 dynasty, and another one on Thursday with the Canon 40D crashing the Top 10. This is a $1000 camera in the top ten! Oh my!

We also had one episode of our regular non-episodic Charts feature, this time taking a look at OneCall and injecting some west-coast bias in a market filled with east-coast bias :)

Calumet received a new load of Nikon D3 and Canon 1Ds Mark III and to celebrate they are offering a free 8gb Lexar UMDA CF card with purchase. This is effectively a 3% discount on the Nikon D3, and a 2% discount on the Canon 1Ds Mark III.

We also posted our new Reader's Choice regular weekly weekend shopper feature, which will be posted on Fridays and updated throughout the weekend. We also had a trio of recession-friendly ideas.

Regular Columns
We had one edition of our not-so-daily daily round-up, the Photography Soup, posted on Friday. We also had one edition of the late-night round-up, Noisy at Night.

And if you missed last week's rewind, be sure to check it out!.

Blogging Updates
With Blogger now adding scheduled posts, we are able to better plan our publishing of new posts. This allows us to post things earlier, so our east coast readers can get their updates earlier in the day.

We also asked our readers in this post/poll what they think about the blog's template.
