New wide-angle Samsung L310w (aka SL310w) makes this the year of the 28mm compact

You don't need to be an elephant to remember the waves and waves of new compact digital cameras starting at 28mm or wider in 2008, but for the pudding, be sure to check the complete list where we keep track of all the new cameras of 2008.

So the L310w, also known as SL310w in the USA market, starts at 28mm wide (28-112mm) with optical image stabilization, and uses a 13.5 megapixel 1/1.7" sensor. Yes megapixel fans, the onslaught of the 13+ megapixel cameras is beginning! The Sony W300 is no longer alone!

The USA press release can be found at the Imaging Insider. A quick look at Amazon shows this camera available for pre-order for $230 with a conservative release estimate of October 10.

This camera will be available in brown, black, silver and pink. Needless to say it will have face detection, scene models, and the like, along with a 2.7" LCD. Details specs at Photoscala, a chance for you to practice your German. No other site as far as we know has posted the complete specs, so kudos to Photoscala!

Meanwhile the Samsung UK page incorrectly refers to the NV100hd on the profile page of the L310w, under the "28mm wide lens". You know you have way too many similar shiny silvers when even your own webmasters can't keep track of them :)
