Pre-Order the Nikon D700, the saga begins!

Nikon D700 pre-orders are picking up momentum. A number of reputable online dealers are now offering it. We already had an epic countdown to the official D700 announcement. That party is over, but it's time for the "party" to move to "Club Pre-Order" and "Club Sample Pictures" :) Bookmark this post for all the latest D700 pre-order updates.

Adorama is accepting online orders for the Nikon D700, in body only configuration for $3000. Free shipping is included, but there is no delivery estimate on the product page.

Amazon is just now accepting pre-orders for the D700 body only for $3000, and the Nikon D700 + 24-120mm f3.5-5.6 lens for $3600 and free shipping. Amazon estimates shipment on September 5, but they are typically very conservative with their estimates.

OneCall has just added the D700 to their website for pre orders as well. The prices are the standard MAP prices, with the D700 body only for $3000, and the D700 plus 24-105mm for $3700. The 24-105mm lens is suddenly going to find a new level of interest.

J&R World is offering the Nikon D700 Body Only for $3000, and the D700 with the 24-120mm lens for $3600. [NOW SHIPPING!]

B&H Photo does not offer the D700 for pre-ordering, but they do list it on their website. Stay tuned to this blog and we will notify you when it is available for ordering at B&H Photo. A good way to stay up to date is to subscribe to our RSS feed.

Calumet Photo jumps in the Nikon D700 pre-order game with their new Enews email newsletter announcing the availability of the Nikon D700 and the option to pre-order it. Simply go to the Calumet Photo website and search for "Nikon D700". Leasing options are also available via Calumet. The search results feature two kits:

  1. Nikon D700 body only for $3000
  2. Nikon D700 with the 24-120mm f3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR lens going for $3700

Ritz and Wolf Camera online are also accepting pre-orders for the D700 and D700 with 24-120mm lens for $3000 and $3600 respectively. Look for the giant D700 picture at, or or search for "d700" from any place on their website. Do note that Ritz and Wolf Cameras online operate separately from the Ritz/Wolf camera stores, so you don't get the same benefits such as "buy online pick up at store", or "buy online return in-store". [NOW SHIPPING!]

If you are not familiar with the 24-120 lens, here are a couple of reviews, by Thom Hogan and The lens specs and announcement at dpreview.

This post will be updated as we notice more reputable online retailers offering the D700 for pre-ordering. Visit and bookmark for reference.

Do note that some retailers out there are charging more than the MAP price ($3000) for the D700 body only pre-order. Obviously it is a free market and they can charge anything they want, but unless they can guarantee faster delivery or something else of additional value, it is not really helping. This is different from having the camera in-stock in a limited supply situation where you are paying for getting the camera right away instead of waiting for a few extra weeks. We saw that with the Nikon D3 initially when everybody wanted a Nikon D3, but there was only a handful of them available. We saw the D3 go as high as $6500. Who wants to be a DSLR day-trader? :)

Please note that if you want to help this poor blog, you can place your pre-orders through this blog and thank us for the D700 marathon coverage :) Here is the permalink.
