New Canon G10 announced or not? (we do not know yet)

Earlier today one of our readers pointed us towards a Canon G10 announcement at Pop Photo. The url is no longer functional, it takes you to the main Pop Photo page, but for reference, here it is.

It mentioned specs that had been rumored and leaked for a while now, 15mp sensor, 5x wide angle optical zoom lens starting at 28mm, RAW, ISO 1600 at full-resolution, hot-shoe and things like that.

Serious Compacts summarizes the G10 specs as seen around the internet.

That's all there is for now, I'm afraid we have to wait for an unspecified period of time before we know more...

Sensor size????

What we all feared Canon would do- it looks like they did. Only they leapfrogged up to 15 MP. How totally unnecessary.

Methinks I will be buying a second A650 for a spare, because it's like will never be seen again...:-(

And it will very likely be my last Canon P&S.

Other than micro 4/3, there is really nothing "new" coming out.

Photokina could turn out to be a big disappointment if there truly is nothing more to come than these types of offerings...

Makes my ticky tacky post all the more relevant, doesn't it?

Is it still stuck in your head? LOL

There was no mention of sensor size, but judging by the specs and price ($500), it is very likely to be using the new "adorable" 15mp 1/1.7x" sensor.

Maybe they will go "modest" on an A650-IS follow-up with the "14mp" sensor instead?

Someone working at a camera shop should line up all the multi-color cameras and film the video clip of that song using the cameras instead of the houses :)

It is still in my head! It even made me get some Tic-Tacs ;-)

There is still hope for Photokina! The Sigma exec was promising two more DP-series models, although they will probably be announced and delivered "Sigma style".

Maybe Sony will wake up and revitalize their above-mid-range compacts.

Well, at least the G10 was reported to have real RAW, unlike Nikon P6000. But the "leaked" specs are course still just a rumour.

Indeed! If Nikon doesn't "fix" the P6000 RAW scandal, they risk "losing" non-DSLR photographers for a while, especially if the competitors make worthy digital cameras.

The thought of a 15MP capability blows my mind. Most people wouldn't know what to do with it.

At this rate we may hit 20-megapixel 1/1.7" or 1/1.6" sensors by Photokina 2010.

I think companies should consider applying the sequential improvements in technology to a more modest number of megapixels.
