New York Times leaks the Nikon P6000

It's not the Nikon D90 some may have been waiting, but according to this dpreview Nikon forum thread, the New York Times have had a leak!

The NYT present the Coolpix P6000 with the built-in GPS sensor as the lead feature. They also mention the 13.5-megapixel sensor, availability of RAW (woohoo!), weight of 8.5oz and $500 price tag. Panasonic LX3 you are not alone!!!

Another dpreview thread points to talking about the P6000. Also pointing to the story is Engadget with a 15+ comment reader discussion.

At Engadget, we also learn of four more Coolpixies, the S710 (13.6mp edition, follows S700), the S610/S610c duo, the S60, and the S560. Other than the P6000, the other Coolpixies are predictable sequential updates, so we'll hold off dissecting them until the official announcement. But if you want to see a nice summary of the five new Nikons, check this page at CNet Asia.

For all the digital camera coverage at Engadget be sure to check all their posts within the digital camera category.

So the earlier rumor you saw at Serious Compacts and other places, looks like it was right on the money!

Update: They are officially announced!
Thanks to Serious Compacts for the update, the P6000 is now official! The Nikon USA press release is available at the Imaging Insider.

The Nikon P6000 is now listed at Amazon for a $500 pre-order. They do not list a shipping date, but rather they state "You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives", which falls somewhere between tomorrow and never ;-)

Detailed coverage of all these Coolpixies tomorrow (Thursday). Here is more on the new P6000, and an executive summary of all six new Coolpix models.
