It is indeed coming in from underneath the D300, but perhaps Canon is planning to tag-team it with an "affordable" 35mm full frame above the D300 and below (in price) to the D700.<BR/><BR/>There are some rumors of a 7D and 5D Mark II, but that may be a bit too much, unless the 5D Mark II is boosted upwards a bit (it's been three years after all), thus creating enough space between the 50D and 5D MkII/D700 for a 7D or something else.<BR/><BR/>The video feature may also get some people who don't usually like/buy/use Nikon to give it a try. No D300 owner will switch to Canon just for the 50D. It feels like a stop gap solution. Canon should have released a camera that obliterates the d300 in every way and force Nikon to play catch up. The D90's video feature is very compelling for first time dslr buyers and non-serious hobbyists. They will be looking at the 50d and 450d and decide on a feature and budget compromise.
